Biography

My name is Shelle Allen. I'm a mother of three daughters, a former elementary teacher, and the author of Strategies for Writing. My teaching experience has spanned the globe: Honduras, Brazil, Canada, Hungary, Minnesota, and California. Teaching has been the passion of my life. In fact, my dad still insists I was born teaching...

Working as a writing consultant, creating curriculum for Teacher Created Resources, and writing curriculum are all components which have driven me. Throughout my entire career, I searched for a writing curriculum which met the needs of the students, adequately addressed the standards, and made my students love writing. My quest left me empty-handed. As a result, through a variety of circumstances, I ended up creating my own program which met all of the criteria above.

Over the past three years, I've launched the program, SFW, in three different school districts in California. Our first documented scores arrived on September 15, 2012. Fourth grade students at Baldy Mesa Elementary School received a 59% proficiency score in 2011 and 81% proficiency score in 2012 using Strategies for Writing. As a result, proof now exists which demonstrates the effectiveness of Strategies for Writing.

Strategies for Writing is innovative, aligned to the new standards for the Nation (Common Core), and is super duper enjoyable! It is my desire to reach beyond my community and offer it to the world. It is my goal to reach as many nooks and crannies as I can with the message of clear, concise communication and empowerment. It is my dream that students everywhere will not only know how to write, but will enjoy the process of writing. It is my pleasure to introduce a online writing academy which eliminates the pain: Strategies for Writing.
