Electric Plane has arrived
Meet Alice, Evation’s ace in electric plane race
We have electric cars, trucks, mopeds, bikes and now we have electric planes too!
At Paris Air Show recently Eviation Aircraft Company based in Israel unveiled an electric plane that promises great future in aviation.
Imagine Tesla car just with wings. Alice, is Eviation’s own ticket to the skies, made entirely out of composite and carbon fibber using 3D printing, is very light all electric aircraft that has purported range of nearly 1000km, 800km actual range.
Alice can reach 450kmph at 10 000m cruise altitude, capable of carrying up to 9 passengers + pilot and co-pilot, aircraft is powered by 280Kw powerplant. Alice weighs only 5900kg, this includes 980Kwh battery. Alice’s maximum payload is 1250kg,
Eviation is hoping aircraft will appeal to corporate as well as commercial market for small aircraft. Alice’s range makes the plane the ideal craft for an air-taxi, increasing the convenience of city-hopping whilst reducing the carbon footprint of short-distance flights.
A follow-on version of Eviation’s unusual airplane would seat as many as 13 people, cruise at 30,000 feet and be powered by aluminum fuel cell technology, for which Eviation already owns the intellectual property.
Price wise, Alice will retail between $2.6 - 4 million and be positioned as a competitor to the Pilatus PC-12 and Beech King Air 350.
Eviation, although not first in electric plane race, is quite bold in pushing the boundaries of what is possible. However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has also plans for an electric plane. However, electric aircraft becomes possibility only once battery energy density exceeds 400 Wh/kg, while his Tesla vehicles are believed to be currently powered by battery cells with 250 to 300 Wh/kg.
